Lake Watauga Weekend

For the first weekend in October, Brent had a Triathalon at Lake Watauga, Tennessee. We all drove down on Friday afternoon, it was a beautiful 4 hour drive through the Appalachian mountains. We got dinner at Applebee's and settled into our hotel. It took the kids a little while to get used to all being in the same room, but once they got to sleep, they slept really good. I was a little bit nervous about being able to entertain the kids all day for the race, since this wasn't going to be just a sprint tri, but a bit longer and I had no idea what to expect. We got up really early on Saturday (5:30) got everyone dressed and ready and found an open IHOP for breakfast. Then we drove out to the race start. It was a beautiful drive out to the race start. The lake was breathtaking, and steaming. Brent swam 1000meters........biked 35 kilometers.....
.....and ran 8K......
.....all in under 3 hours.
Meanwhile the kids and I enjoyed the beautiul views......

.....played hide-and-seek in the graveyard.....

.....and threw rocks in the lake while cheering on dad.

It was a really wonderful weekend and we took a different and even more beautiful drive home through Virginia and Tennessee. It has been fun being able to explore this side of the country and enjoy all that our Heavenly Father has given us, our health and strength, and beautiful sights.
